Here’s some help for preparing your child for kindergarten
1.) read!

Read to your child as least once a day, reading them fictional, non-fictional, rhyming books, fairy tales etc. Feel free to repeat the readings and choose difficult texts where possible, if your child doesn’t like the book, change to another one. Also letting your child choose their own books and build up their own little collection will be a big help too.

2.) Be social

Send your child on play dates, let them mix with different personalities early on so they can gain a clearer understanding that everyone’s different. Take them to the park where they can freely roam and play with other kids. There are also clubs you could have your child join, allowing them to learn how to be a team player or follow instructions. It is important for your child to know how to behave around other children for their first day.

3.) Give them different learning experiences

We understand that there is a skill set your child needs to be marked as “prepared” for kindergarten, but other skills can be learned from your child being exposed to different learning experiences where they need to think and problem solve. Give them different learning experiences such as experiences where they need to listen carefully, experiences where the need to work with their body or experiences with their hands etc.

4.) Independence

Allowing you child to help you with making decisions, whether it being what clothes they should wear that day, where they want to go, what to eat can all help with them independently thinking for themselves. Still say no when they’re making choices that aren’t right so they can differentiate between right and wrong much more independently too.

5.) create things

Crafts are a great way to help develop your childs motor skills and literacy. Grab the paper, scissors, glue, create something together that’s fun for your child.
